IT service desk news recap: what changed from April to September 2026

By Service Desk Compare reviewers · 29 September 2026 · 5 min read

What does this recap cover?

It groups the dated announcements on our news page from 20 April to 23 September 2026 by theme. Each item links to the vendor's own post or release notes. Summaries are ours; dates are the vendor's publication dates. We did not verify vendor claims beyond reading the source, and nothing here changes our scores, which were last reviewed on 27 September 2026. One earlier 2026 item, Ivanti's January preview of agentic AI for Neurons for ITSM, is on the news page.

What changed in AI features?

  • 24 July, ServiceDesk Plus Cloud: Resolution Assist generates a resolution from similar resolved requests, and the same release added SLA violation alerts through third-party notification channels [ManageEngine release notes].
  • 9 September, SysAid: an AI Automations Builder lets admins describe an automation in their own words, and SysAid sets the triggers, conditions and actions. SysAid names assignment, prioritisation, categorisation and escalation as the four functions and calls it an ITSM industry first, which is the vendor's claim [SysAid blog].
  • 14 September, ServiceDesk Plus Cloud: Anthropic's Claude added as a provider for Ask Zia and its GenAI features, plus chart generation in Ask Zia and reusable workflow approvals [ManageEngine release notes].

The pattern is less about new AI agents and more about the work around them: who writes the rules, which model reads the ticket text, and how resolutions get drafted. For a stage-by-stage view of what each vendor documents, see AI ticket triage in 2026.

What changed for public sector and regulated buyers?

  • 6 August, Freshservice: Freshworks said Freshservice achieved 'In Process' status toward FedRAMP Class C (Moderate), with Coalfire guiding the process and AWS GovCloud (US) as the planned infrastructure [Freshworks press release].
  • 13 August, Halo: Halo said its multi-tenant cloud platform achieved FedRAMP certification at the Moderate impact level under the FedRAMP 20x programme and is listed on the FedRAMP Marketplace [Halo news].
  • 23 September, Jira Service Management: Atlassian moved its DoD Impact Level 5 submission forward by six months to July 2028, with a FedRAMP High submission to follow in January 2029, and tied the work to the Data Center end-of-life date of 28 March 2029 [Atlassian blog].

These are the vendors' own descriptions of their status on the day they published. Confirm the current status and impact level on the FedRAMP Marketplace before procurement. Our regulated-teams article covers deployment options and HIPAA as well.

What did the analyst announcements say?

  • 29 July, Freshservice: Freshworks announced it was named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for IT Service Management Platforms, a report it dates to 27 July 2026 [Freshworks press release].
  • 29 July, Jira Service Management: Atlassian's post says it was named a Leader in the same 2026 Magic Quadrant and a Leader in The Forrester Wave: Conversational AI Platforms for Employee Services, Q3 2026 [Atlassian blog].

We report these as the vendors' announcements. We have not read the reports, they do not feed our scores, and other vendors may also be placed in them, so check the report itself for the full picture.

Which deals and partnerships changed the field?

  • 20 April, ServiceNow: ServiceNow completed its purchase of Armis, an asset visibility and cyber risk company, 'for approximately $7.75 billion in cash, funded through a combination of cash on hand and debt' [ServiceNow newsroom].
  • 15 June, Zendesk: Zendesk acquired intellectual property from Berlin-based beams and hired its team, adding SaaS and AI tool visibility, governance and provisioning to its Employee Service platform [Zendesk newsroom].
  • 23 June, Halo: UST signed a global partnership to resell Halo and provide implementation, consulting and managed services to its clients in more than 30 countries [Halo news].

Two of these deals touch asset and SaaS visibility, which sits next to the configuration management criterion in our rating method. Neither changes a score until the capability appears on the vendor's product or pricing pages.

What changed on the platforms themselves?

  • 2 June, Zendesk: the Zendesk Support Assistant for Microsoft 365 reached Microsoft AppSource, letting employees raise, track and escalate support requests from Teams, Outlook, Word and other Microsoft 365 apps [Zendesk newsroom].
  • 21 August, Halo: Halo is moving its cloud platform to a containerised architecture on AWS EKS, with a beta in version 2.252 from September 2026 and general availability for Stable channel customers in Q1 2027. IT teams need to update firewall rules for new egress IP ranges [Halo news].

What should buyers do with this?

  1. If AI provider choice matters to you, ask each vendor which models process ticket text and whether you can choose or switch them off, as ServiceDesk Plus Cloud's September release shows provider lists change.
  2. If you buy for the US public sector, record each vendor's stated FedRAMP or DoD status with its date, then confirm it on the FedRAMP Marketplace.
  3. If you run Halo, put the AWS EKS firewall and DNS changes on your change calendar before general availability.
  4. If a vendor points to an analyst report, ask for the report itself rather than the press release.

All dated items, with sources, stay on the news page. For scores, see the ranking.
